Taoist philosopher Zhuangzi: Was I before a man who dreamt about being a butterfly, or am I now a butterfly who dreams about being a man?”

The butterfly isn’t photoshopped in. The first shot took us 4 hours to get it right. Talk about my utter anal-ness in perfection.

The photos were hardly edited at all. Lighting courtesy of ARRI film lights. I’m still ultimately a film-making person. I don’t like strobes. On the contrary, I like putting in hot lights with gels.

[ANNOUNCEMENT] SOY “B” 2010 Event: Booth Location & Sale of Prints!

We (me and chibimeli) will be having a booth at SOY 2010 on 30th January 2010 at Ngee Ann Polytechnic Convention Center! Our booth is called Woddee x Chibimeli and we will be selling BJD photo prints (in Fuji Pearl Paper) and original traditional hand-drawn illustrations and fanarts. Please look out for us and do support!

We’re located at Booth C01. Our booth name is called “Woddee x Chibimeli” XD. Here is the location map released by the SOY “B” Committee!

[ANNOUNCEMENT] EXPOSURE – A month-long photography exhibition held at Orchard Central

Hi all,

I would like to take this opportunity to share with you about this event.

As some of you would have known about my passionate love for photography, it gives me great pleasure to announce my first mini-exhibition held on a public platform. A photography exhibition event, organized by Orchard Central and managed by Ape Communications, is having a 1-month long photography exhibition at Orchard Central, spanning across its level one’s Discovery Walk to the basement 1 below. And 3 of my works, blown up to A1 size (I found new love for really big prints!) is going to be showcased at the individual display stands.

My works will be located on the Level One’s Discovery Walk, where the wooden Planked boardwalk is, next to the Chinese Lunar New Year Stage.

The exhibition is starting on this coming friday and will end next month, 21st Feburary 2010. It’ll be great if you guys could go down and have a look!

I’m really happy and excited as this is my first time showcasing my work to the public and given the opportunity to do so, despite the overwhelming responses in submission for the event.

Do pass the word around about this photography exhibition as I think it’s a pretty interesting concept of promoting the arts and the shopping mall at the same time.

It’s tiresome to be a diva…

Works: [1 Photo] Undertow (LUTS Aru)

This was shot on the Hasselblad 500C/M, using Fuji NPZ 800 Expired Film. Metered at ISO400 with Fuji Finepix s100fs.

No editing was done to the photo other than Auto Color, Levels and Contrast in addition to the watermark. The white ’stripped’ lines present in the photo isn’t photoshopped nor was it the result of bad filming loading.

BJD Photographer of the Month Award – December 2009: Thank you

I’ve won the BJD Photographer of the Month award for the month of December. Much thanks to Kawaiimon and the BJD community for supporting me.

I was kinda of shocked and happy at the same time when i received word about my win. It’s funny cause I’ve always had thoughts that i will never achieve anything as it is ‘unattainable’ and half the time when I upload my works, I think that I’m performing for an empty crowd.

Winning awards like this, no matter how small, makes me feel appreciated and lifts my spirits up. It drives me to want to do better and strive for a better photography vision.

So thank you all. For supporting me in my road to photography. It’s full of bumps and imperfections but I will strive to show a better side to everything else.

Fashion Fuchsia – A color sets a tone. A trend sets a movement.

Comments:
One of my best works. Amazingly, this shot is without edit except for placing the watermark. It was achieved with an Ikea lampshade and the fuchsia-colored Ikea Organza curtain that my mom had. Which I won’t deny that upon looking at it, inspired me to have a shoot with it on a whim LOL.

Originally, our idea was of something else. But disaster strike and everything went haywire which resulted in a flooded house and lots of soaking rags. I’m so embarrassed for ruining Chibimeli’s house and especially troubling her mom who was gracious enough to let me, well, somehow ‘ruin’ the furniture; all in the sake of art oTL.

Ah well, sometimes plans and ideas don’t go well as they should and the only thing you can do is to make the best out of it. Which i did. And therefore resulted in that image above. I would love to do that idea i had originally in mind (Now that i know what works and what doesn’t) but that will idea shall be shelved at the moment.

A friend mentioned that it reminded him of Shu Uemura and because of that, i went to make a fan-made advertisement out of it LOL.
